These prototypes capture the organic qualities of nature, embracing the beauty of imperfection. The benefits of nature are linked to the multi-sensory experience of being immersed in nature, therefore, this prototype explores the use of sight, scent, sound, and touch. The prototype depicts elements of Stephen Kellert’s (2018) biophilic design framework, through using direct and indirect nature. To artistically replicate my findings, I have combined the use of moss with textile techniques. Combining multiple rug-making techniques mimic the multiple textures found in nature through creating various pile heights. Incorporating live moss has allowed me to emulate the smell of a natural environment and this has been further enhanced using petrichor fragrance oil. Recycled wrapping paper and aluminum foil bags were incorporated into the finishing of the internal backing of the rug, to mimic the sound of walking through leaves.
